I was driving to work yesterday when I got a call from one of my bossesat about 7:20pm. He told me that a breaker had gone out at the building, so there was no power. They had a new $40,000 part on the way, but it was projected that it wouldn't be installed until 10pm. He asked if I could come in at 10pm instead of 8pm, but I told him I was already half way there, so he said to go ahead and continue.
Well, I got there and with the power out, we weren't able to do anything. My boss said I would be clocked in on time for coming in because my company has a policy that we are paid at for at least 4 hours of work, even if we go in and are told to go home (on good terms) after working 5 minutes. After a while, they gave a new prediction of getting power at 11pm. This whole time, we just waited outside and talked amungst ourselves, took naps, or went to eat. The power finally turned on at 11pm, but it took till 2am to get the servers running for the computers, so we sat around for 3 more hours. When the servers finally came on, we took about an hour to check on all the stuff that was left undone and finally got to doing something. I was at work and got paid for 10 hours, but sat around for 6 hours.
I guess that was a way to get back some of the 20 minute breaks I'm supposed to take, but can't because I'm so busy.
