A Successful Date

I was finally able to work something out with her. As mentioned in my last post, I asked a girl in my ward on a 2nd date last Sunday. The only details I told her was to dress for walking a bit in the weather and to be hungry. We also decided to go on Saturday. I called her Wednesday to set up a time but got no answer again, so I left a message, but I didn't hear from her that night. I called again on Thursday about 6pm. The same thing happened except that I said I would try again in a few hours if she hadn't called me back. The few hours went by so I called her again. This time I just told her to call me back if she could, no matter what time it was. She called back 10 minutes later. She promised me that she wasn't trying to ignore me and told me how when I called the 2nd time the phone was under her seat while she was driving which is why she didn't answer. She also said she was about to go into a recital and asked if she could call back when it was done to which I said she could.

When she called back, we talked a bit about our weeks thus far and then decided to go at 6pm Saturday. The last 2 or 3 days, I have printed out a ticket for her "around the world" trip, looked up pictures from the "countries" we were going to visit to put them on my GPS, and bought some tulips. Here is a copy of the ticket I made.

I gave a paper copy of the ticket to her when I picked her up giving her the first clue to what we were doing, but still confusing her at the same time. I drove over the the Tabernacle here and parked the car. I then told her that this was a "magical" trip and that we could see the countries we were going to with a magical telescope. The telescope was like making binoculars with your hands, but putting one in front of the other. After she made the telescope, I put the GPS in front of her and showed her the following picture.

She didn't know where it was, and I wouldn't either if I hadn't found it, so I told her we were going to Thailand. We then started walking, but I told her the airline had first class service and provided escorts if she wanted one as I held out my arm. She smiled and thanked me as she took it. We walked to a Thai restaurant where she finally understood how we were traveling. I told here we would have an appetizer there and share it. I let her choose and she picked a chicken skewer that came with 2 different sauces.

Before we started walking to the next country, she pulled out the magic telescope and saw this.

On the way to Italy, I told her she could use the escort again, but also said that my hands had gotton cold and that I understood if she would like to keep hers warm as well. I was right, but she was thankful for the gesture none-the-less.

We got to Italy, a local restaraunt called La Nonne's (no nays), but our flight was delayed as we would have had to wait an hour and a half to get in, so we took another flight to Olive Garden where the wait was 30 min. We got to the border of Italy, but our visas were rejected. It worked out though. This came up next in the telescope.

Off to Pita Pit for Greece. Italy was going to be our main dish, but since it didn't work out, we both got something in Greece rather than sharing it. She didn't finish her pita from getting full so it was a good thing Italy didn't work out. I asked her if she had room for dessert and she said yes, so after Greece, this popped into view.

I couldn't find what country the ice cream we know today originated from because there are many conflicting stories about it, but Cold Stone Creamery was the next stop. At every country and in between, we were always talking, so it was a nice change to get one on one with her this time around. After our ice cream, I drove to her appartment, but before she got out, another country was seen in the telescope.

She didn't understand how Holland was going to be our last stop, until I brought out a boquet of yellow tulips I had stashed in a shoebox in my back seat. Turns out that tulips are one of her favorites. She gasped and expressed how beautiful they are as I took them out of the box. I don't know how I am always so lucky in picking out flowers, but I'm glad she liked them. As I walked her to her door, she said this had been the most creative date she has ever been on. I was happy to hear that. The date ended with a hug at her door. Overall, this was a great date. Now I need to think about what to do on the 3rd. I was thinking maybe just go with her to one of the recitals she needs to go to. I'll try to talk to her about it at church tomorrow.
